We gather to remember we are not alone.
Young Black Femmes in San Francisco is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization rooted in the Bay Area. We exist to reduce the social isolation Black femmes so often quietly carry — and to replace it with rooms, rituals, and relationships that feel like home.

Our Mission
To create intentional, restorative spaces centered on healing, connection, joy, and community for Black femmes in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our Vision
A Bay Area where every Black femme has somewhere soft to land — where rest is sacred, friendship is medicine, and joy is a birthright we practice out loud.
Our Values
Community care over individual achievement. Pleasure as resistance. Slowness as wisdom. Honesty held with tenderness. Showing up imperfectly, but consistently.
What We Believe
Young Black Femmes in San Francisco believes that when Black femmes, women, and gender expansive people have consistent access to healing-centered community spaces, they build meaningful relationships, strengthen support networks, deepen their sense of belonging, and contribute to a more connected and resilient community.
Who We Center
Young Black Femmes in San Francisco is centered on Black femmes, women, and gender expansive people. We use the term “femmes” as an expansive community term that reflects our roots while honoring the many ways people experience and express femininity, rather than limiting our community to any one specific gender identity.
Young Black Femmes in San Francisco is a nonprofit organization (EIN: 39-4890430) creating intentional spaces for Black femmes to connect, feel supported, and build meaningful community in San Francisco.
We believe connection is essential to wellbeing. Through thoughtfully designed gatherings, restorative experiences, creative programming, and community-centered events, YBF works to reduce social isolation while fostering joy, reflection, confidence, and collective care.
Our programming holds room for both — intentional gatherings that ground and restore, and carefree gatherings that let us simply be. Spaces where people can show up fully, build genuine relationships, and experience community beyond networking or surface-level interaction.
Our events may include
- Grounding and reflection spaces
- Embodied safety and self-defense workshops
- Creative and inner-child-centered experiences
- Restorative gatherings and wellness experiences
- Service and community engagement opportunities
- Carefree gatherings just for joy
As we grow, we are committed to building sustainable, community-rooted programming that supports long-term wellbeing, belonging, and connection among Black femmes in San Francisco.
The Community Healing & Connection Series
Our flagship offering — a year-round series of small, facilitated gatherings designed to soften isolation and deepen real-world friendship.
Meet our Executive Director

My name is DeJanelle. I'm 27 years old and have lived in San Francisco since 2016, spending time across neighborhoods like the Richmond, Tenderloin, Bayview, and Mission Bay. Lover of cozy gatherings, real talk, wellness, and creating spaces where people feel connected, grounded, and seen. Always here to uplift, connect, and keep it real.
Born and raised in California's Central Valley and proud first generation American.
Currently building Young Black Femmes in San Francisco, a nonprofit centered around connection, wellness, and reducing social isolation through intentional community experiences.
My simple pleasures are alliteration, a good candle, meaningful conversation, and angel numbers (limitless encouragement).
